The hydroxyl groups are responsible for the unique properties and applications.
12-Hydroxy stearic acid is a light coloured acid with a high melting point. It is soluble in solvents as isopropylalcohol, benzene, aceton etc. and is mainly used in the manufacture of lubricating greases as thickening agents.
It is also used as a non-drying fatty acid in the manufacture of alkyd resins, as a PVC lubricant and mould release agent. |
